7 Often-Missed Spots While Cleaning

A cleaner with gloves on cleaning a soapy sponge under the tap

So you clean your house regularly – the kitchen is wiped down, dishes are done, carpets are vacuumed, bathrooms are cleaned, beds are made, and the laundry is put away. “Hooray” you say as you pat yourself on the back and sit down to put your feet up.

But even the cleanest people can overlook some small, but essential places germs like to hide and dust can pile up. It’s all in the details and as always, if you need a hand, our cleaning experts can come in and put a no-obligation, customised cleaning quote for you.

Here are 7 spots we’re all guilty of missing

Skirting Boards

You vacuum the carpets and wash the hard floors, but have you addressed the dust that’s gathering along the skirting boards in every room? It’s an easy fix, just run a damp cloth and/or some disinfectant spray along all the skirting boards to wipe up all dust and dirty residue.

It might seem like a small spot, but it’s a spot our cleaners pay special attention to because it makes a huge difference to the cleanliness and overall appearance of your home! It really is the little things!

Light Switches

Think about how many hands touch these every day… and with every switch-flick more germs are left behind. Not surprising light switches and wall plates are some of the dirtiest places in your home. This is a great spot to use a disinfectant spray to kill any bacteria hanging out there!

Door and Cupboard Handles

When were in the kitchen we can have all sorts on our hands, food, oils, dirt and bacteria. We then go to open a cupboard and it all gets transferred onto their. Yuck!

When we come home from work or the kids come home from school, do you wash your hands before opening a door? Probably not, and that’s how germs from public places get bought back into your home.

Make sure you always take the time to disinfect all cupboard and drawer handles, and all doorknobs (inside and outside) so germs don’t get spread further than they should!

Fridge and Freezers

How often do you wipe out your fridge and/or freezer? We mean give it a really good clean – all the shelves, the nooks on the inside of the door and the bottom where all sorts of food residue can drip down onto.

Make sure you give it a good regular scrub, inside and out, so that your fresh food stays, well fresh!

Top tip: You can always add on a fridge / freezer clean to either your One-Off or Regular Cleans with Auckland House Cleaners! Just let us know it’s something you want and we’ll take care of the rest!

Rubbish Bins

This one seems like a no-brainer, but it is so often missed – possibly because it just seems like too gross of a job? Even more of a reason to do it!

Make sure, with every clean, you clean the bin area with a good disinfectant spray, make sure there is no hidden food-residue inviting in mould or flies, and use a sturdy bin liner to keep your rubbish in the bag (not leaking out of it).

Under and Behind Appliances (eg. Fridge, Microwave, Washer and Dryer)

We know it can be a bit of a hassle but pulling your fridge out from the wall or looking behind and under your microwave really can make a huge difference to the cleanliness of your house.

Lots of food particles, dirt, and dust can gather there, and although it may be out of sight it won’t be out of mind. The germs and bacteria that can grow in these hard to reach places are no good for your kitchen or your health.

Take that extra bit of time to do the job properly, or get our professional cleaners in for a One-Off Clean or Regular Clean, because we will!

Tooth Brush Holder

Your toothbrush holder can be easily missed, however it is the holder of something that goes in your mouth every day, so it’s important to wash it regularly!

Have you ever taken a look inside? Grimy and gross (aka the perfect conditions for bacteria to multiply) is usually how it looks, so get it soaking in some hot water ASAP and use a pipe cleaner to scrub any hard to reach crevice’s!

Top tip: Pour some mouth wash in there and swirl it around after to make sure all germs are killed, and it’s left looking and smelling fresh!
