Pets at Home? Keep your Home Smelling Fresh

  • How to
a pet owner with her husky relaxing on the carpet

Keep your house from smelling and looking like a kennel with our top cleaning and maintenance tips below!

  • If possible, opt for an odour-resistant pet bed.
  • Use an air purifier.
  • Put baking soda out – you can also sprinkle baking soda onto the carpets and let it sit overnight to absorb odours, then vacuum it up in the morning.
  • There are couch covers for pets you can purchase from either The Warehouse or Kmart to easily manage any stains or smells, you can simply pop these in the washing machine when needed.
  • Wash once a week – gather up all those blankets, toys etc. and wash them. Cuts down on smells and prevents mold and mildew from growing.
  • Use an enzymatic cleaner – the enzymes in these cleaners attack the particles that cause staining and odours, helping to rid your home of both. There are natural ones out there that are safe to use on anything from carpets to beds.
  • Wash everything with white vinegar. From blankets to pillows and curtains, basically wash anything your pet comes into contact with on a regular basis. Use a combination of laundry soap and ¼ cup white vinegar and cold water.
